Employment and Education Timeline

January 2021 - Present

Homesite Insurance

I was hired as a full-time member of the Homesite team in January of 2021. My role in the company did not change; I remained in the team lead role. My team and I were tasked with adapting one of our other codebases to be used for a new project for OnStar Insurance. My team and I were heavily involved in many critical front-end features to allow us to sell insurance in all 50 states. Our hard work achieved one of the fastest nationwide rollouts of any insurance product.

GM's OnStar Insurance To Be Available In All 50 States By Early 2022

I was also responsible for creating our entire logging and alerting mechanisms for multiple high-value projects. To do this, I integrated the DataDog platform into our applications. I was also responsible for setting up our logging and alerting systems for a UI On-Call rotation.

During the second half of 2022, I worked as a member of the Homesite Discovery Lab. We focused on researching cutting-edge technologies and processes to help the business become more efficient and expand into different markets. I have been working on insurance "widgets," which are small embeddable pieces of code that will generate quotes on any website. I have also been investigating insurance chatbots as an alternative to the traditional UI flows.

In the first quarter of 2023, I was needed to expedite the transfer of an application from a different operating company to ours. I led the effort of transferring the actual code, setting up our Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) accounts, and configuring our Terraform deployment files.

Homesite Insurance (Contracting through Saggezza)

As a front-end engineer, I was responsible for all maintenance, refactoring, and testing our web applications.

I was tasked with modernizing an existing web application using React, React Material UI, and React Hooks. The goal is to use this refactor to give a framework for other front-end teams working within the company to follow. I have worked on refactoring class-based react components into functional react hooks components. This will help simplify our code and make it more easily readable and maintainable. I have also worked on building a brand new user experience from scratch utilizing React with Redux style data patterns.

During my time contracting for Homesite, I was moved to a new web application development project. This was a brand-new project called Choice UI. The Choice UI project was a business-critical project to win the company a deal to sell insurance through Costco. I started as a team member working on components and pages for the front end. We were

August 2018 - March 2019

Johnson Controls (Contracting through Randstad)

I was a Senior Software Engineer responsible for working on large scale dashboarding for physical building controls.

I was responsible for full-stack development utilizing C# in conjunction with Angular in order to create a meaningful dashboard for users to control their buildings and create their own automation flows.

I helped to modernize their main dashboard application on the front-end using Angular 2 and Angular Material in order to create a dashboard experience that was easier to use and more maintainable. I also helped to modernize their back-end architecture by migrating their codebase from a monolithic structure to use microservices across both C# and Node.JS.

Cove Insurance

Cove Insurance is a small start-up working with modern chatbot technology.

I was integral in building a chatbot that sold insurance VIA Facebook Messenger. I helped create chatbot flows using Node.JS, deploying the code to AWS, and utilizing Azure Bot Builder to build the entire flow of the application. I was also instrumental in helping modernize our database design to make the flow of data more efficient.

Over the course of working at Cove Insurance, I used NodeJS, React/Next, Microsoft Bot Framework, along with various AWS offerings, including DynamoDB, RDS, Elastic Beanstalk, S3, and EC2.

June 2016 - January 2018

QPS Employment Group

I transformed a monolithic application into a distributed microservice architecture using NodeJS, real-time Socket.IO services, and cloud-based serverless architecture to increase usability and decrease system outages.

I opted to modernize the existing codebase by implementing the front-end in Angular 2 and utilizing Angular Material to build a more modern dashboard experience. The front-end was written initially using AngularJS; however, I decided in late 2016 that it would be better to transform the front-end to use Angular 2 as I knew that AngularJS support was going to be coming to an end.

I was able to leverage the ability to understand and translate big-picture business needs into actionable high-ROI business solutions to deliver a highly-effective solution that meets or exceeded business goals with highlights including:

  • Architecting, developing and implementing a solution that increased target user engagement
  • Slashing custom-feature development times by 50%+ in releasing 10 new custom/specialty features.
  • Reengineering/releasing a new front-end for a mission-critical public-facing app that increased end-user applications by 12,000+/month per month while reducing the application time by 50-70%
  • Delivering these high-impact business results in 90-days, whereas QPS had commissioned an outside vendor in 2013 that had not produced the desired results over the course of 36-months

August 2015 - February 2016

NSR Business Solutions

I was chartered with broad scope front-end and back-end web development responsibilities supporting both internal systems and customer projects.

I was an instrumental contributor in performing back-end development across multiple applications utilizing Umbraco CMS and ASP.NET MVC as well as front-end application development using JQuery and Bootstrap.

I leveraged a strong passion for website development in designing websites and website components that consistently met or exceeded the high demands and expectations of customers.
